Meet the Staff

Barbara Walker
Co-Founder

Barbara Walker, LPCC Co-Founder and director of all three LPCC choirs, received a Bachelors of Vocal Music Education degree from Louisiana State University, a Masters of vocal Performance and education from Loyola University in New Orleans, and a Kodály Certification from Sam Houston State University. Ms. Walker has taught elementary music in public school for over twenty-five years, and was the music specialist for Livingston Parish Schools in the Talented Music program. While teaching in Houston, Texas, 
Ms. Walker was selected as the 1989 Elementary Teacher of the Year for the State of Texas. She was selected as the Walker Elementary Teacher of the Year in 1990. in 1999, Walker was selected as the Livingston Parish Elementary Teacher of the Year, and the Louisiana Region VII Elementary Teacher of the Year. She is listed in Who’s Who of Outstanding Young Women in America, and Who’s Who in Outstanding Educators in America. Barbara sang with the Houston Grand Opera Chorus for five seasons, performing on stage with opera legends such as Placido Domingo, Joan Sutherland and Mirella Freni.
Walker is an active adjudicator and has conducted seminars in Kentucky, Louisiana, Nebraska and Texas. She regularly serves as a guest conductor for district middle school and elementary school honor choirs across Louisiana and is a member of NAfME.

Regina Walker
Co-Founder
1930-2021
 
Mrs. Walker wrote many of the choral arrangements performed by our LPCC choirs. She was a nationally known choral director, and taught private studio voice and piano in Livingston Parish. Mrs. Walker was awarded the 1997 distinguished Contributions to Music Education Award presented by the Louisiana State University School of Music Alumni Association. Regina Walker was selected as the 2007 Baton Rouge Music Teachers Association’s Outstanding Educator of the Year for her lifetime contributions to music in Louisiana. Mrs. Walker conducted the grand finale of all the concerts, until her passing in 2021.

Melanie Rushing
Chorale Co-Director and Accompanist

Melanie received her Bachelor of Vocal Music Education degree from LSU.  She was the Director of Music Ministries at Live Oak United Methodist Church in Watson, Louisiana. She is Louisiana state certified in piano teaching and has taught piano and voice for over 30 years as well as being an active accompanist and vocal performer. she is a member of the NAfME ,LFMC, ACDA, MTNA and LMTA music organizations. Melanie has been involved as an accompanist and director of LPCC choirs since the organization began in 1991. Her children, Shelby, Ryan, and Sarah, and husband, Perry, have been active members as singers and instrumentalists of all of the LPCC choirs.

Robin Truax
Apprentice and Chorus Co-Director

Robin Truax attended Southeastern Louisiana University and Louisiana State University, where she received a Master of Music Education degree. She also holds a Level II Orff Certification.  She is a member of MENC,  AOSA, and ACDA. A vocal music teacher for over twenty-five years, she taught elementary music in Livingston Parish at North Live Oak Elementary School until her retirement from public school.
Robin
 writes the Orff arrangements performed by the LPCC choirs.
